Ginger Fizzy Gin

Not long ago I tried a Moscow Mule for the first time. If you haven’t tried it, it’s a cocktail made with ginger beer, lime, mint and vodka. Yum! The only thing is that you don’t always find ginger beer, at least here in Santiago. So when I want to have this cocktail I need to organize a trip to wherever it is they sell it and usually I just can’t be bothered. Also, I prefer to drink gin ;). This gin Ginger Fizzy Gin is inspired on the Moscow Mule and it’s really nice and refreshing.

I’m sorry that this recipe doesn’t come with a video but the thing is that I’m having a really bad case of hay fever which has me all bloated and not feeling my full self because of a tree that Santiago is full of.

Anyhow, the important thing is that I have a nice recipe for you anyways that you can use when the weekend comes along 🙂

I think it’s super fun to make a different cocktail when friends come over. So if I know that my friends drink gin or vodka you could have the syrup ready for them and they can assemble their own drinks. It even tastes great without any alcohol!

In general, to get creative with cocktails you need 3 components: a simple syrup (half sugar, half water) which can be flavoured or not, an alcoholic beverage of your liking and a non alcoholic beverage such as soda, ginger ale or a juice. Knowing that you can let your mind wonder into new recipes of your own.

I love the freshness from the mint and ginger and also that tingly sensation the ginger leaves as you drink it. So yummy! Let me know if you make it for your next gathering with friends.

Course: Cocktails
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 4 people

Ingredients

For the ginger syrup

  • 100 g sugar
  • 100 g water
  • 50 g ginger weigh it peeled

For the assembly of the cocktail for 2

  • 2 sprigs mint bruised so they release flavour
  • 2 parts ginger syrup
  • 2 parts lime juice
  • 2 parts gin
  • 3 parts carbonated water

To decorate

  • mint
  • lime slices

Instructions

Ginger syrup

  • Finely grate the ginger and put it in a pot with the water and sugar and let it boil lightly for 10min.
  • Pass through a sieve and let it come to room temperature.

Assembly of the cocktail

  • Put everything but the carbonated water in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until it's really cold. This is not 100% needed but it helps in that then the ice in your drink won't melt as it cools it down but rather its job is just to keep the temperature given to the drink in the shaker.
  • Pour onto a glass with ice and top with carbonated water
  • Decorate with mint sprigs and lime slices
