Pecan Apple Crumble

This pecan apple crumble is one of my "saviour" desserts because it takes almost no effort to make and so far I've never met anyone who doesn't like it. The apples turn nice and gooey in the brown sugar mix and the crumble is extremely tasty. I also added walnuts to the crumble so it has a lovely crunch as well.

Ingredients

For the crumble

  • 100 g unsalted butter cold and cut in cubes
  • 130 g all purpose flour
  • 150 g brown sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 100 g chopped pecans (not toasted) or swap for oats

For the apples

  • 6 Pink Lady apples or Royal Gala or Fuji
  • 200 g brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 100 g unsalted butter melted
  • 4 tbsp all purpose flour

Instructions

For the crumble

  • Put everything in a bowl and mix. Pinch the butter cubes with your fingers along with the other ingredients until there are no large bits of butter left.

For the apples

  • Peel, core and cut the apples into 5mm cubes.
  • Mix the apples with the rest of the filling ingredients and place them in individual ramekins or in a large baking dish (mine is 28cm/11in in diameter). Press down gently to minimize the amount of air between the apples.
  • Sprinkle the crumble on top.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C/350°F for 30-40min or until golden on top and bubbly. If you have an electric oven, you can see how it's going at the 20min mark and if it's already golden enough on top, switch to bottom heat only for the rest of the cooking process.
  • Let it cool down completely before serving.
