Red Velvet and Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

by Lorena

I don’t know why but as soon as Christmas starts to arrive I fell like all my desserts need to be drowned in icing sugar haha. These crinkle cookies are gorgeous and in this occasion I’m showing you how to make them red velvet and also chocolate.

These crinkle cookies are delicious and have a lovely texture. They’re really like a round brownie that’s covered in sugar. Also they look really really chistmasy to me LOL.

Red velvet crinkle cookies can actually be of any colour you like. A cute idea is to make them half green and half red. They’re really fun to make, too so you can easily make them with children. Another cute recipe you could make are shortbread cookies.

When you get to the point where you’re making the icing sugar coat you really need to bare in mind that it really needs to be thick. Don’t worry if you think it’s going to be too sweet because the dough is already not that sweet to compensate. This thick layer of sugar is what’s then going to create the crinkle effect of the cookies. If it’s too thin it will go translucent in the oven.

  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • Mix the flour, salt, baking powder, sugar and cacao using a whisk.

  • Take the mixx to the fridge for an hour so it becomes more solid.
  • Make small balls between your hands.

For the crinkle effect

  • Pass the dough balls through the icing sugar and let it form a thick coat around it. Place them on a tray with baking paper with 4 fingers between each other as they tend to spread out.
  • Take them to a preheated oven at 180C for 8min.
  • Wait a couple minutes for them to cool down before removing them from the tray so they don’t break.
