What is Whipped Brie Cheese?

Whipped brie cheese is a creamy and fluffy version of regular brie cheese. It’s made by beating or processing brie cheese until it becomes light and airy. The texture of whipped brie cheese is similar to whipped cream cheese, but with a more intense flavour and aroma. I saw this trend on Instagram and just had to try it.

The cheese’s taste is rich and tangy with a hint of sweetness. It’s perfect for adding to a cheese board or using as a dip for vegetables or spreading on toast. Whipped brie cheese is also a great ingredient for making savoury dishes such as quiches, omelettes, and pasta sauces. In this recipe, I served it with honey and pistachios but many flavourings are possible. Also, if you prefer, another good option for a deliciously soft Brie cheese is to bake it.

Ingredients for Making Whipped Brie Cheese

Whipped brie Cheese only requires a portion of cheese to make. There’s no need to add other ingredients such as cream or others. It’s important to use high-quality ingredients for the best results. I like to use a slice of brie rather than a round because we have to remove the rind before whipping. In a slice, you will lose less proportion of the cheese than in a round. It’s best to cut it while it’s cold, but then you need it at room temperature for whipping. To be honest, I just add it sliced and cold to the food processor and as it processes it will naturally come to room temperature.

Can I make it with other cheeses?

You certainly can! A good replacement is Camembert cheese, which has a slightly more pungent flavour to it. You can also use other cheeses that have a hard rind and a creamy interior.

Instructions for Making Whipped Brie Cheese

  1. Remove the rind from the cheese using a knife. You can eat it or discard it. Cut up the interior of the cheese into cubes.
  2. Add the brie cheese to a food processor or you could also use an electric mixer.
  3. Process the ingredients until smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  4. Serve on a board or bowl with toppings of your choice.

Variations and Serving Suggestions

Whipped brie can be customized to suit your taste preferences. You can add herbs, spices, or other flavourings to create different variations. For example, you can add chopped fresh herbs such as thyme, rosemary, or chives for a fresh and herbaceous flavour. In my case, I topped it with honey and chopped pistachios. Bear in mind that brie cheese (especially without the rind) has a mild taste, so avoid overpowering ingredients.

When it comes to serving whipped brie cheese, there are many options. You can serve it with crackers, bread, or vegetables for dipping. You can also use it as a spread for sandwiches or as a topping for crostini. It is also a great ingredient for making appetizers, such as stuffed mushrooms or mini quiches. With its rich and creamy texture, it’s a dish that will definitely impress your guests at your next gathering.

Storing Whipped Brie Cheese

Whipped brie cheese can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. It will harden in the fridge, so before serving, let it come to room temperature to soften and make it easier to spread. If you have any leftover whipped brie cheese, you can also freeze it for later use. Simply transfer it to a freezer-safe airtight container or bag and freeze it for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to use it, let it thaw in the refrigerator overnight and give it a quick blend to restore its creamy texture.

Making whipped brie cheese at home is quick and easy, and it’s a great way to elevate your cheese game. With just a few ingredients and a mixer or food processor, you can create a delicious and versatile spread perfect for entertaining or snacking. Try this at home and let me know if you like it!

  • 300 g Brie Cheese I prefer using a slice rather than a round
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • Chopped Pistachios

  • Fresh from the fridge, remove the rind from the cheese, losing as little as possible from the inside.
  • Cut up the inside and transfer it to a food processor or to an electric mixer bowl.
  • Process or beat until very fluffy and smooth. It could take a bit to become smooth, so be patient and scrape the sides of the bowl every once in a while to get a homogeneous result.
  • Spread the cheese on a dish and top it with your choice of toppings. I used honey and chopped pistachios.
