Making your own homemade pita chips at home is the perfect way to add a twist to your favourite appetizers. These homemade pita chips recipe includes 3 ways to season them for a completely different result. These are baked and yield the most crispy crunchy pita chips ever! They’re one of my favorite snacks or the perfect pairing for dips. I swear you will want to eat these crispy chips like popcorn. The sound they make when you bite into them is extra satisfying! They also pair perfectly with all kinds of soft dips and other appetizers such as salmon tartare, carpaccio and a pretty cheeseboard.

How to make homemade pita chips
Making these homemade pita chips is extremely easy and will stir you away from store-bought chips forever. Homemade baked pita chips are also the healthiest options since you know that you’re not adding anything artificial or unnecessary to them. Here are the step-by-step instructions for these pita chips:
- Cut the pita bread into small triangles. To cut them you can use a pair of kitchen shears, a knife or even a pizza cutter. These OXO kitchen shears are one of the best kitchen shears if you need new ones! You can make thinner chips by opening the bread in half first or go for thicker chips by keeping the pita pocket intact. It depends on what you’ll be serving them with.
- Mix the pita triangles with the olive oil, salt and pepper in a large bowl. If you’re adding spices, you will add them at this point. Other versions of this recipe ask to use a pastry brush to brush the oil on, but I find this is a much more efficient way to do it.
- Place the triangles on a sheet pan (no need for parchment paper). Try to have little overlap between them or ideally have them in a single layer for an even baking. Place the sheet pan in a preheated oven at 180 degrees C / 350 degrees F. Cooking time will be 6-10 minutes or until golden brown. Let them cool down to room temperature before serving.
Ingredients for homemade pita chips and variations
This homemade pita chips recipe is extremely easy and the ingredients we use can be easily found in grocery stores. Mixing in new flavours to adapt to your appetizer is really easy and you will have lots of fun playing around with the recipe. I bet you will have your own favourite spice mix in no time. Here are the ingredients you will need for a basic delicious pita chip as well as the other 2 variations I teach here.
- Pita bread: You can use any kind of pita bread like white or whole wheat pita bread, making it a healthy snack. You can even swap the bread for tortillas and make tortilla chips instead! You can use store-bought pita bread or go for homemade pita bread.
- Olive oil: I used extra virgin olive oil in this delicious pita chip recipe. The quality of the olive oil will have an important effect on the final flavour of the chips.
- Salt and pepper: Sea salt and black pepper will add lots of flavour to the pita chips and make them really delicious.
- Spice mixes: The ingredients mentioned before make for the most basic and classic recipe for pita chips. The other 2 versions I teach here are oregano and paprika pita chips (with the addition of garlic powder, oregano and paprika) and spicy lime pita chips (lime zest and cayenne pepper). The spicy pita chips are my favourite! Other spices you might like to experiment with include za’atar seasoning, curry, garam masala, turmeric, onion powder and more.

How to keep homemade pita chips
Now that you have made your own pita chips, you want to keep them fresh for as long as you can so that you can enjoy them throughout the week. These homemade pita chips can be kept for up to a week in an airtight container at room temperature. You can use glass containers, plastic containers or even ziploc bags. Since you’re already making these easy chips, you might as well make extra for the week! Airtight containers give the best results at keeping them fresh and crispy for longer. A crunchy chip is the perfect pairing for your favourite dips, independent if they’re store-bought dips or not. If you’re looking to make your own, here are a few of my favourite dips:

More chips and crackers
Since you’re already in the “homemade” mood, here are more recipes of chips and crackers that you can make along with these homemade pita chips.
